São Paulo Concert

December 12, 2015

For the first concert of this South American tour, the evening was perfect, a warm Brazilian night with a capacity audience of 40,000: the excitement was palpable. And then a huge roar, which signaled the arrival of David and the band to the stage, with one newcomer, Lucita Jules, singing backup vocals with Bryan Chambers. The roar then became a chant, “Olé, Olé, Olé, Gilmour, Gilmour”, which was then repeated throughout the concert.

The band were on great form, taking up where they left off in London, but this time with a ‘choir’ of 40,000 joining in and singing along to the Pink Floyd favourites. When it came to David introducing the band, the biggest ovation, quite rightly, went to Brazilian João Mello, Run Like Hell brought the seated crowd on the pitch to their feet, and there they stayed until the soaring finale of Comfortably Numb.

Last night’s setlist was…

First Set: 5 A.M.; Rattle That Lock; Faces Of Stone; Wish You Were Here; A Boat Lies Waiting; The Blue; Money; Us And Them; In Any Tongue; High Hopes.

Second Set: Astronomy Domine; Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Fat Old Sun; On An Island; The Girl In The Yellow Dress; Today; Sorrow; Run Like Hell.

Encores: Time/Breathe (reprise); Comfortably Numb.
