Air Canada Centre: Night One

After an absence of 10 years, David and the band received the warmest of Canadian welcomes, roaring them on to the stage; hello again Toronto. The audience’s enthusiasm was palpable from the very first notes and continued until the climax of Comfortably Numb. It was evident that David was enjoying himself, his solos were inspired and everyone on stage seemed to catch the mood, that last night was one of those special ones.

Money and Us And Them stir emotions in many of the audience; tears could be seen as memories were evoked, as only music can. Today and Astronomy Domine rocked the rafters of this sports arena, as of course Run Like Hell does … taking the audience by surprise with Marc Brickman’s dramatic ‘strobe effect’ lighting piercing the stage.

New songs In Any Tongue and Today have taken on a new life played live, and being loudly cheered each night.

As one critic said of this concert: “David Gilmour may have turned 70 earlier in March but he’s still capable of rattling some locks”. I think everyone that was there last night would certainly agree with that.
