Hollywood Bowl: Night Two

March 26, 2016

No two concerts are ever the same, and this was certainly the case with the two Hollywood Bowl concerts; last night’s audience roared and cheered from the get-go and the band responded with a concert that crackled and fizzed from the very opening notes.

What Do You Want From Me was performed for the first time by David for many years, replacing On An Island. Last night’s performance of Money, accompanied by the images of money cascading down the front and sides of the Bowl, was probably one of the best ever, bringing the ecstatic audience to its feet. And Fat Old Sun had David soloing into the stratosphere; it was one of those nights. The explosion of fireworks from the roof of the Bowl can’t be seen by the band but they can sure hear them … causing David to joke “what the f..ck was that?” And then it was the turn of the audience to provide their own lightshow, as thousands of phone lights were waved in the air urging the band to return for the encore. “What a wonderful sight,” David observed, and 16,000 fans agreed; it had indeed been a wonderful night.

Last night’s setlist was…

First Set: 5 A.M.; Rattle That Lock; Faces Of Stone; Wish You Were Here; What Do You Want From Me: A Boat Lies Waiting; The Blue; Money; Us And Them; In Any Tongue; High Hopes.

Second Set: Astronomy Domine; Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Fat Old Sun; Coming Back To Life; The Girl In The Yellow Dress; Today; Sorrow; Run Like Hell.

Encores: Time/Breathe (reprise); Comfortably Numb.
