Porto Alegre Concert

December 17, 2015

Porto Alegre is the southernmost capital of Brazil, and last night’s concert venue is one of the city’s jewels, the Arena do Grêmio built in 2012, home to the Grêmio football team. The 40,000 crowd greeted the band with a deafening roar and the stadium sparkled with the lights from thousands of mobile phones. The set list was the same as Curitiba, which meant a reprise of the ever popular Coming Back To Life. Last night The Blue from David’s previous No. 1 album, On An Island, shimmered and In Any Tongue, from Rattle That Lock, had the crowd transfixed by Danny Madden’s war animation. The stadium ‘choir’ sang the Pink Floyd classics, culminating in the finale, Comfortably Numb.

David thanked the audience for being so great and it was time to bid Brazil farewell and to reflect on David’s first ever concerts in the country. There are so many highlights from the four concerts but the warmth and the passion of the Brazilian audiences, as well as their singing and chanting, will live long in the memory.

P.S. Special mention must go to Fabiano and his family for the balloons and RUN banners of Curitiba.

Last night’s setlist was…

First Set: 5 A.M.; Rattle That Lock; Faces Of Stone; Wish You Were Here; A Boat Lies Waiting; The Blue; Money; Us And Them; In Any Tongue; High Hopes.

Second Set: Astronomy Domine; Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Fat Old Sun; Coming Back To Life; The Girl In The Yellow Dress; Today; Sorrow; Run Like Hell.

Encores: Time/Breathe (reprise); Comfortably Numb.
