Royal Albert Hall – Second Wind

September 24, 2015

In spite of its opulent grandeur, the Royal Albert Hall’s circular layout can raise some issues for the sound, lighting and staging team but, as you would expect, David’s touring party is so expert and the production so well organised that even the massive ‘Mr Screen’ feels at home in the space, and all part of an integrated whole.

Tonight’s show built on yesterday’s astounding presentation, with a relaxed band and an even more enthusiastic crowd, and as The Daily Telegraph said of last night’s show, ‘it was hard to imagine a better blend of atmosphere, visuals and sound’. A twist for tonight was saxophonist João Mello contributing acoustic guitar to In Any Tongue, which marked his live debut on guitar, not only with David, but on any stage, anywhere.

The full setlist was…

First Set: 5 A.M.; Rattle That Lock; Faces Of Stone; Wish You Were Here; A Boat Lies Waiting; The Blue; Money; Us And Them; In Any Tongue; High Hopes.

Second Set: Astronomy Domine; Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5); Fat Old Sun; On An Island; The Girl In The Yellow Dress; Today; Sorrow; Run Like Hell.

Encores: Time/Breathe (reprise); Comfortably Numb.
