David and Polly Announced as Liberty Choir Founding Supporters

August 6, 2015

Following their performance on the title track of Rattle That Lock, the Liberty Choir has announced that David Gilmour and Polly Samson have become founding supporters. The choir has just relaunched their Website; visit it here.

Launched at London’s Wandsworth Prison in April 2014, the Liberty Choirs programme is a unique, community interest company and choir singing opportunity. Created by MJ Paranzino and Ginny Dougary, it brings singers into prisons to join inmates as a choir, and provides ex-offenders the opportunity to join the choir and be part of a community upon their release. The programme follows through when the ex-offenders are released, with former prisoners joining community choirs, where they would recognise familiar faces and friends and re-integrate.

On Tuesday 4th August, David and Polly visited Wandsworth Prison and sang with the Liberty Choir. David said: “The guys from the prison are lightened by this beautiful thing that they’re doing and they’re taking part in this action with no stigma. They’re just part of the community in that room and they are with someone who is as inspirational as MJ guiding them – and impressing on them that there is no success and no failure here – you do your best and enjoy it”. Polly said: “The great thing was the milling around before and realising that on the whole there is no difference between people on the inside and people on the outside, it’s just luck and circumstance. That was very clear today”.
